LaGrande Peterson (1904-1990) was born in Brigham City, Utah to Silas Frank Thompson and Bolette Hansen Peterson. LaGrande served in the U.S. Army Signal corps during World War II. He was inducted June 23, 1942 and was trained in principles of electricity, messaging, radio and telephone schools and as a teletype operator. Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program.
